Capital Press was started by Bill Little in 1974. It was the realisation of a dream that began as a Linotype operator in the late 1960′s. During the early 1970′s the first of his letterpress machines were craned into our garage at the family home in Mt Wellington. This machine is still in use today.

In 1974 a company was started under the name of Capital Press Ltd and premises were found in Onehunga. Our first ever staff member was hired in 1975.

During the late 70′s Bill could see the industry undergoing big changes, with the traditional method of letterpress printing being overtaken by the newer method of offset printing. Bigger premises were sought and a new Heidelberg offset press was purchased. A further purpose built factory was commissioned in the early 1980′s, but this was also outgrown within the decade and the move to Rockfield Road happened in 1987.

In more recent times we have seen a shift again from offset to digital printing, particularly in the last 10 years. Our industry is one that is very much technology driven and the advances we have witnessed in digital printing have been quite remarkable.

With the help of our preferred suppliers we have moved away from toxic inks and chemicals to user friendly and environmentally friendly products. Some of our inks are now vegetable based not oil based. Our modern printing machines are a lot more energy efficient than previous. Our papers are either recycled or come from sustainable forests.
